The Portfolio Workshop is a an portfolio program run jointly by Upstairs and Show It Better, two independent businesses.
You buy through the Upstairs school on Teachable. Teachable takes your payment and issues your receipt, and the selling business is named on that receipt.

By buying a seat you accept these terms.
The Method. The recorded masterclasses, the Portfolio in Action sessions, and the Playbook. Self-paced, open all year. No live sessions, and nobody looks at your work.
The Cohort. Everything in The Method, plus the weekly live clinics, the shared group space, the clinic recordings, and a certificate. Limited seats.
The Cohort VIP. Everything in The Cohort, plus two written page-by-page reviews of your portfolio and one 45-minute private call. Seats are by application, and we can decline an application.
Recorded material is released on a schedule we set, and that schedule can change. Everything in your tier is released by the end of the program.
Prices are in US dollars and are shown on the site. Any sales tax or VAT due in your country is added at checkout by Teachable, on top of the price shown.
Cohort and VIP prices rise on published dates during the enrollment window. You pay the price shown at the moment you buy.
We offer reduced prices for people in some countries. Ask us at hello@theportfolioworkshop.com. A discount code is issued for you and is not transferable, so please do not share it. If a code is used by someone it was not issued to, we can cancel that order and refund it.
A discounted seat carries exactly the same rights as a full price one, refunds included.
Payment is taken in full at checkout, before your access starts. Teachable processes the payment and holds your card details. We never see them.
Your access belongs to one person and one login.
You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of your purchase, for any reason. Write to hello@theportfolioworkshop.com and we refund to your original payment method, normally within 7 to 10 business days. After 14 days we cannot refund.
The 14 days run from the day you buy, not from the day the program starts, so the window can close while the program is running. A refund ends your access to everything: the recorded material, the clinic recordings, the group space and any certificate. The Playbook is a PDF, so we cannot take back a copy you already downloaded, but your right to use it ends.

The 14 days apply in full. Inside them you can also move down to The Method instead of refunding, and we return the difference. After 14 days a seat is not refundable, including if you stop attending.
The same as The Cohort. Your written reviews and your one-on-one call are scheduled after the window closes.
If you are in the EU or the UK, you have a statutory right to cancel a distance purchase within 14 days. Our policy already gives you that, unconditionally, so there is nothing extra you need to do.
The program runs on fixed dates, published on the website, which is the source of truth for them. Seats are limited.
Clinics run once a week for 90 minutes, twice on the same day at two different times, so you can take the one that fits your time zone. The current day and times are on the website and in the group space.
You choose your time when you enroll and keep it for the whole program. If something serious changes on your side, write to us and we will try to move you.
If we have to move a clinic, we give you a new date and post the recording as usual. If we cancel the program before it starts, including because too few seats sold, everyone gets a full refund.
Recordings are posted within 24 hours. If you miss a clinic, the recording is the remedy. We do not refund or repeat a session you did not attend.
A seat belongs to one specific cohort. We cannot move you to a later one.
Your access lasts a year. We set it to 13 months from the day you buy, so the full year still runs after the six weeks of the program. It covers the recorded masterclasses, the Portfolio in Action sessions and, for Cohort and VIP, the clinic recordings. At the end, access ends.
The Playbook is a PDF. Once you have it, it is yours to keep.
Certificates are for Cohort and VIP only. To earn one you need to attend at least 70% of the live clinics and hand in a portfolio at the end that shows real work on the document. It does not have to satisfy you. It has to show you did the work.
The clinics are recorded. Everyone in the room is in the recording, camera on or off, work on screen or not. Those recordings are posted to your cohort, and we may reuse any part of them, video, audio, chat or screenshots, in our teaching material and in marketing for The Portfolio Workshop: the website, YouTube, Instagram and paid ads.
If you submit portfolio material for review, the same applies to your pages. They may be discussed in a recorded clinic, posted back to the cohort as a recorded lesson, and reused afterwards.
We always credit you: your name, your handle, and your school or studio.
The only way to keep your work out is not to submit it. Work you do not submit is not reviewed.
Your VIP one-on-one call is private. It is not shared with the cohort and it is not used in marketing.
If you later want us to stop using your work, your voice or your face in new material, email us and we will stop. We cannot recall what is already published.
The masterclasses, the Portfolio in Action sessions, the Playbook, the clinic recordings and everything else we give you belong to us. You get a personal license to use them for as long as your access lasts.
You may not share, resell, upload or republish any of it, and you may not record or screenshot a clinic yourself.
Your portfolio is yours. Nothing here changes that.

Where a warning fits, you get one. Otherwise, we can remove you from the program immediately and without a refund.
We do not promise you a job, an interview, a place on a master's, or any other outcome. No program can promise that, and be careful with any that does.
What we do promise is the teaching. The recorded material covers the fundamentals behind a portfolio that works: structure, visual cohesion, narrative, and the decisions underneath them, in one curated package. The clinics put your own pages in front of two architects who mark them up and tell you what is working and what is not.
The work is yours to do. Expect two to three hours a week on your own file. Nobody can build your portfolio for you.
We strongly recommend Adobe InDesign. Getting the software and a working knowledge of it is on you.
You need to be 18 or over to enroll.
We are responsible for delivering what you paid for. We are not responsible for anything beyond that, such as a job you did not get or a deadline you missed. Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in, and those rights apply whatever this document says.
We may update these terms. The version published here on the day you buy is the one that applies to your purchase.
